GPlay fought through the lower bracket of the ESL SEE Season 1 finals in Bucharest, Romania to ultimately defeat Space Soldiers 3-0 in a best-of-five, winning $1,100 in the process. With the community's main focus this weekend being the ongoing DreamHack Tours, South East Europe's best gathered at the East European Comic Con in the Romexpo Exhibition Centre for the ESL South East Europe Championship. GPlay, a Bulgarian team making inroads into the second tier of Counter-Strike in Europe (and also the wildcard pick for the offline finals), were surprisingly defeated in a 2-1 nail-biter to the Hungarian Rock in the semi-finals. The other favourites, Space Soldiers—who had a good showing at Copenhagen Games 2015—advanced to the grand final with ease on their side of the bracket.
GPlay rallied however, defeating Romanian XPC in the lower bracket and then enacting revenge on Rock in the consolidation final. Facing off against the Turkish Space Soldiers in a best-of-five with the latter team having a 1-0 advantage, GPlay needed to win three maps to take home gold. In a grand final which interestingly saw the currently sidelined map de_nuke among the map-pool, GPlay cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win, with Space Soldiers never managing to bring their map score into the double digits on any map. As a result, GPlay win $1,100 and go home the victor:
Both teams are currently competing in GameAgents' second season of the Balkan Championship and GPlay also currently stand atop the Balkan Superleague group stage. ESL Southeast Europe Championship Season 1 FinalsBest of 4
